ONJA
(In production)
ONJA is an independent short documentary filmed on the east coast of Madagascar, in and around Toamasina.
The film follows the daily life of local fishermen through gestures, routines, and moments of waiting. A profession passed down through habit rather than explanation, practiced in an environment that no longer responds as predictably as before.

Production Snapshot
ONJA is filmed entirely on location in Toamasina, on the east coast of Madagascar.
The project is developed with a very small team and a light setup, allowing flexibility and time on the ground. Filming is done primarily with a Sony FX3, with limited aerial footage used sparingly to situate the environment rather than to stylize it.
Lighting is minimal and intentional, favoring natural textures, available light, and tones that reflect the environment as it is experienced.
Local collaboration is essential to the project, both for practical reasons and to ensure the work remains grounded and respectful of its context.
Supporting the Film
This project is largely self-funded.
A support fund has been set up to help cover concrete production and post-production needs, including:
-
local transportation and access to boats
-
filming logistics
-
sound work
-
editing and finishing
Support is entirely optional and exists only to give the film the time and conditions needed to be completed with care.
Distribution Plan
Once completed, ONJA will be shared first with the people involved in the film.
The project will then be submitted to selected film festivals. Following its festival run, the film will be made publicly available online, ensuring open access to the work.
Selected stills and short excerpts may be shared through Thalyris to document the process and the visual language of the project.
Collaboration & Support
This project is not built around traditional sponsorship.
However, collaborations that align with the spirit of the film are welcome.
Supporters may be acknowledged in the credits or on the project page. The focus remains on the film itself rather than brand placement or promotion.
If you are interested in supporting the project or discussing a collaboration, feel free to get in touch.
