About this page

Following the recent cyclones affecting Madagascar’s east coast, several communities remain cut off from stable food access and essential supplies.

Thalyris initiated a field response, focusing on last-mile distribution support to households that are not currently reached by larger aid structures.

Our role is not emergency services or medical intervention.

We coordinate sourcing, transport and direct delivery of essential goods in collaboration with local community leaders.

This page provides transparent operational updates regarding distributions, logistics and field impact.

On 18 February 2026 we organized a distribution of staple food supplies for families in the area.

A total of 63 households received food rations including rice, cooking oil and other essential dry goods intended to cover the coming days.

The objective is to help families handle immediate needs while they continue repairing their homes and stabilizing their daily situation.

A few days after the cyclone, we went to the Ambalamanasy neighborhood, behind the airport in Toamasina.

This area was heavily affected and many houses were damaged or destroyed. Several families are currently without proper shelter and are rebuilding small temporary structures using recovered materials.

During our visits we identified a group of families in a particularly fragile situation. Around twenty people are currently staying at a neighbor’s house while a small shelter is being rebuilt nearby. Because they depend on the host household for food and space, the situation is difficult for everyone.

The first support focuses on immediate needs: food supplies for the coming days and basic construction materials so the shelter can be finished faster.

During our visits we met a family in the Salazamay whose house was completely destroyed by the cyclone. Only an old concrete foundation remained on the property, and the family temporarily stayed nearby while trying to organize a place to sleep.

We first provided basic food supplies, then building and roofing materials so they could rebuild a small shelter on that foundation.

The structure is modest but allows them to stay on their land and have a dry place to sleep. We will continue to follow the situation and share updates as the shelter progresses.

In addition to individual situations, we organized distributions of basic necessities for several households in the area. Families received staple food rations such as rice, oil and dry goods, along with essential everyday items and some seeds so they can begin restoring small food sources.

The aim is to help cover immediate needs while people rebuild their homes and progressively regain stability. Further distributions will continue as resources allow and will be documented step by step.

In another area, we met a resident living alone whose house was damaged by the cyclone.

He has significant hearing difficulties and limited mobility in his lower limbs, which makes daily life more challenging. The roof has several openings and rainwater enters the living space, making nights especially difficult.
